Fracture behaviour of a polypropylene film

چکیده

Ageing of polymers results from structural modifications at the molecular scale and kinetic modelling must be elaborated from analysis of the phenomenon at this scale. However, the change of mechanical properties results from modifications of structure at larger scale, especially the macromolecular scale (chain scission, crosslinking) and or at the macroscopic scale (skin-core structure linked to a superficial attack of the material). The effect of photoageing on the behaviour of isotactic polypropylene films was studied on samples of weight average molar mass Mw = 270 kg mol . The influence of photoageing on the fracture toughness was examined by using the Essential Work of Fracture (EWF) method. Complementary characterization was performed by FTIR, uniaxial tensile testing. In conclusion, EWF tests performed appear as an interesting method to characterize the influence of structural factors on the fracture properties of polypropylene. Effect of Adding Nanoclay on the Mechanical Behaviour of Fine-grained Soil Reinforced with Polypropylene Fibers

In this study the performance of clay nano-particles on the soil reinforced with Polypropylene fibers (PP-fiber) has been investigated. Also a series of investigations concerning the effect of random orientation of fibers on the engineering behaviour of soil were conducted. Soil mixtures were modified with varying percentages of nanoclay and Fibers. Unconfined compressive strength (UCS), Compac...

Fracture Toughness of Polypropylene-Based Particulate Composites

The fracture behaviour of polymers is strongly affected by the addition of rigid particles. Several features of the particles have a decisive influence on the values of the fracture toughness: shape and size, chemical nature, surface nature, concentration by volume, and orientation. Among those of thermoplastic matrix, polypropylene (PP) composites are the most industrially employed for many di...

Enhanced Properties of Oriented Multilayer Polypropylene Film/foams

This research work presents an understanding of structure-property relationship in uniaxially oriented multilayer polypropylene (PP) film/foams. Multilayer PP film/foams having 16 layers have been produced by using a unique coextrusion and multiplication technique. A post-uniaxial drawing process at a certain temperature has been carried out to orient the multilayer film/foams in extrusion dire...

Poly(acrylic acid) surface grafted polypropylene films: Near surface and bulk mechanical response

Radical photo-grafting polymerization constitutes a promising technique for introducing functional groups onto surfaces of polypropylene films. According to their final use, surface grafting should be done without affecting overall mechanical properties. In this work the tensile drawing, fracture and biaxial impact response of biaxially oriented polypropylene commercial films grafted with poly(...
